The Leveller

The South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire region is known for it’s hilly terrain to the west. This ride from Kirk Sandall Station in the east of the region is 61 miles long and uses quiet roads and a section of canal towpath, and it’s flat!

Kirk Sandall is served by Northern Trains from Doncaster and Sheffield. Cycles are carried. Theoretically there is a maximum of 2 bike per train, but this is generally ignored.

Routes for the Phil and Friends rides

The Phil and Friends rides take place every August starting from Stannington in NW Sheffield. They are run as fund raising events for the CTC and take in roads familiar to Phil Liggett from stages on the Milk Race and Tour of Britain. There is a 100km and a 150km route. Both routes take in the climb of Holm Moss and are hilly. The 150km route also includes the climb through the Winnatts Pass, a short twisty 20% climb which doesn’t feel that short when you are climbing into the almost inevitable headwind.
